HS-PS1-7: Atoms and Mass are Conserved

Use mathematical representations (balancing equations) to support the claim that atoms, and therefore mass, are conserved during a chemical reaction.

Scientific Principle

Matter cannot be created or destroyed in a chemical reaction. Therefore, the number of atoms of each element must be exactly the same in the reactants as in the products. The total mass on both sides of the equation must be perfectly balanced.
